SHSM Students raised RM9,375.92 for SEG COVID-19 Student Support Fund

This subject was under the guidance of lecturer, Ms Farah Atiqah and co-lecturer, Ms Hairani. The students in their respective groups have successfully implemented their respective fundraising projects in a span of three to four weeks. The names of the 12 projects were Sparks Joy, Joyful Bites, Virtual Run, Virtual Movie Night, CS Preloved, Virtusales, A Helping Hand, Eco Life, Baking Society, Cookies CNY, My Bearkery and Project Raffle.

These fundraising projects included a photo contest, sales of preloved goods, lucky draw, virtual run, virtual movie night, sales of eco care products, and sales of baked goods. There were also numerous sponsors who have contributed through the provision of prizes and merchandises – special thanks to Ideal Electrical Sdn. Bhd., Yi Hang Hardware Sdn. Bhd., Sozanne Enterprise, and Eurouhaus. Some of these projects also attribute their success to product suppliers who subsidized ingredients costs. The School of Hospitality and Service Management would like to express heartfelt thanks to each and every individual and company in making this series of fundraising projects a success. Due to social distancing policies, all monetary contributions were made via online transfers or e-wallet transfers.

The funds raised were channelled to the SEG COVID-19 Student Support Fund is spearheaded by YM Datin Raja Riza Shazmin Raja Badrul Shah, the Director of Philanthropy of Sunway Education Group. The SEG COVID-19 Student Support Fund was set up by the Philanthropy Office to provide social support and assistance to Sunway University and Sunway College students. The Fund is an additional avenue aside departmental-level and various other student support services provided on campus. Funds were utilised to support students away from home around Bandar Sunway and Subang Jaya area, especially those who required assistance and support during these difficult times.

Ms Farah Atiqah also commented, “Throughout the course of their projects, the students demonstrated a high level of resilience, hard work and determination all in the purpose of a good cause. It is hoped that this subject has instilled the importance of volunteerism and enhance a sense of responsibility among students for them to practice civic consciousness in their surrounding community.”
