This project is aligned to the University’s vision of working towards a sustainable environment, whereby promoting a cleaner neighbourhood to live in. This project is carried out in selected areas in the Klang Valley not only to improve the living environment but to also improve the well-being of the community.
Participating in such project builds the character of students by educating them to be socially responsible. Ms Ng Siew Cheng, the supervising lecturer of the Community Service module also pointed out that “Community projects also spurs interaction among the local community and students, which emphasises the importance of a sustainable environment”.
Over a period of four days, the students of the School of Hospitality moved around vast areas of Klang Valley for a good clean-up! It was worth noting that the teams collected 122kg trash, making the district safer and greener. At the end of this project, students were able to understand the importance of being “green” and eco-conscious. The incivility of the habit of throwing trash ignorantly have been detrimental to the environment.
This clean-up project was part of the Great Heart Charity Association’s “You & Me Educational Program”, where students of all levels are empowered to conduct community projects to make the world a better place. It truly is great to witness the School of Hospitality students giving back to the society.
