Digital Talent in Malaysia: Challenges, Opportunities & Trends

The panel session was held in conjunction with the launch of the Digital Talent Survey which was conducted by local think-tank Social Economic Research Initiative (SERI) together with the Strategic Change Management Office (SCMO), EPU.

The panel session was moderated by Dr Helmy Haja Mydin, CEO of the SERI (and respiratory specialist), and the panellists included En Aadrin Azly, the Chief Digital Officer, PETRONAS and Dr Sumitra Nair, the Vice President & Head of Digital Skills & Jobs, MDEC.

Prof Elizabeth shared various insights from an education perspective, including the need to produce holistic talent with digital skills, as well as to provide dynamic pathways to nurture talent (such as 42KL). En Aadrin spoke about the transformations taking place in big corporations such as PETRONAS and the growing demand for digital tech talent, while Dr Sumitra emphasised the continued importance of “soft skills” (which she said is better to be called “essential skills”) such as teamwork, problem solving and adaptability.
