The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Ceremony recently celebrated the success of students who achieved exceptional results in the June 2017 Cambridge examinations.
At the ceremony, 12 students from Sunway College took home 14 awards; 10 Top in the World, 1 Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels, 1 Best Across Four Cambridge International AS Levels and 2 Top in Malaysia.
Among the award recipients at the ceremony was Ho Jin Jonathan, who received his second award for Top in the World for Cambridge International A Level Mathematics. Recalling the moment when he saw his results on the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) website, Ho shared that he felt very blessed and grateful as receiving the award for the second time was completely unexpected for him.
“Receiving the award for the first time was already a surprise, and to receive it again the second time, it felt unbelievable.” Ho received the Top in the World for Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics in the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Ceremony in April 2017. He is very grateful to his lecturers Mr Lee Lip Seong and Mr Tham Weng Kee, who motivated him to do his best. Ho is currently pursuing Actuarial Science at Heriot-Watt University.
19-year old Chan Jun Kang from Klang received 2 awards at the ceremony, the Best Across Three Cambridge International A Levels and Top in the World for Cambridge International A Level Further Mathematics.
Chan, a Public Services Department (JPA) scholar, shared he is grateful to his parents and lecturers at Sunway College who guided and supported him along his journey in the A-Level programme. Chan is currently pursuing Chemical Engineering at Monash University Malaysia.
Chan was also one of the recipients for Top in the World for Cambridge International AS Level Chemistry at the ceremony in April 2017.
Another JPA scholar from Klang, Tung Giim Chyn was awarded Best Across Four Cambridge International AS Levels and Top in the World for Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics.
“I feel very honoured and happy to receive these awards, it was unexpected”, said Tung who just completed her exams in November. She plans to continue her degree at a local university.
Accompanying Tung at the ceremony was her father, Tung Yew Beng who was very happy and proud of his daughter’s achievements. He hopes his daughter will continue to work hard and thrive in her studies.
2 recipients from Sunway College Johor Bahru, Kok Jia Xin and Loo Rong Jie were also awarded at the ceremony. Kok received the Top in the World for Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics while Loo received the Top in Malaysia for Cambridge International A Level Computer Science.
Also present at the ceremony were Marzita Omar, Principal Assistant Director, Private Education Division, Ministry of Education; Dr Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Southeast Asia and Pacific, Cambridge Assessment International Education; Ng Kim Huat, Country Director, Malaysia and Brunei, Cambridge Assessment International Education; and Ruth Cheah, Director of the Cambridge A-Level Programme, Sunway College.
At the ceremony, students from the A-Level programme at Sunway College took home the highest number of awards among all Cambridge Assessment International Education providers in the country.
