AUSMAT Graduation Ceremony

Sunway College Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) programme recently celebrated its Class of July 2022 via a physical graduation ceremony; a first in two years. There were over 400 people in attendance, inclusive of graduates, parents and guardians, staff and notable VIPs. The key figures in attendance were:

The VIPs in attendance included Professor Elizabeth Lee (Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Education Group), Melanie Harries (Australian High Commission), Gail Taylor (Principal Consultant- International Education, School Curriculum and Standard), Dr Cheng Mien Wee (Executive Director, Sunway International School and Director, Pre-University Studies, Sunway College) and Vanitha Satchithanadan (Assistant Director for Pre-University Studies & Director, AUSMAT, Sunway College Kuala Lumpur) with representatives of .

The event turned into a day of celebrating grit, resilience and community. This became apparent when valedictorians Ng Kai Li and Lim Shuen Yee attributed their successes to their families, lecturers and friends during their speeches. Their speeches focused on a shared student experience that can be felt by all graduates; the isolation they all experienced while attending classes online during the lockdown and the moments that they felt like giving up but persisted due to the support of family and friends.

The Class of July 2022 reaped the rewards of their hard work because 59% of graduates achieved ATAR 80 and above. This means that they sit in the top 20% category in the recent WACE examinations. So much so that RM7306 worth of book prizes were awarded to 12 graduates, courtesy of Australian universities such as Deakin University, University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, Murdoch University, Swinburne University of Technology, University of Western Australia, Victoria University, University of Queensland, University of South Australia and RMIT University.

Ms Vanitha Satchithanadan, Assistant Director for Pre-University Studies & Director, AUSMAT, Sunway College Kuala Lumpur, closed the ceremony on a reflective note:

“And as our AUSMAT students go, be assured that they go with many of life’s lessons already learned – resilience and perseverance, teamwork and communication, kindness and acceptance. They are ready to face university life and whatever else may come after. I have watched as they have been stretched, stretched and grown into wonderful, independent young women and men, well-equipped to tackle the adult world with newfound confidence, as we have seen today.”

Once again, AUSMAT Sunway College KL extends the heartiest of congratulations to the Class of July 2022. We are so proud of you!
